The iPhone Mail app does not have a universal “Log Out” button like many websites. To stop using a mail account on an iPhone 11, you can temporarily turn off Mail for that account or remove the account from the device. Removing it does not normally delete the mailbox from the email provider.
Temporarily stop showing an account in Mail
- Open Settings.
- Open the Mail account settings. On current iOS versions this may be under Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
- Select the account.
- Turn Mail off.
The account remains configured for other enabled services, but its mailbox stops appearing in Apple’s Mail app until you turn Mail back on.
Remove the account from the iPhone
Open the same account settings and choose Delete Account or Remove Account. In this context, the command removes the account configuration and synchronized data from the iPhone; it does not normally close the Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or other provider account itself.
Check contacts and calendars before removal
An email account can also synchronize contacts, calendars, reminders, or notes. Verify that important information is stored or synchronized somewhere you can access before deleting the account from the phone.
If security is the reason for signing out
Removing the account from one iPhone does not invalidate sessions on other devices. If you suspect unauthorized access, change the provider password, review active sessions/devices, enable multifactor authentication, and use the provider’s account-security controls.
Apple reorganizes Settings between iOS releases, so an iPhone 11 running current software may not match older screenshots. Search Settings for Mail or Accounts when the original menu path is no longer visible.
