The Maps app on your iPhone can provide you with driving directions to particular destinations, and it can estimate when you need to leave for a scheduled appointment in your calendar. This functionality makes the iPhone very useful for travelling.
But you may find that you are receiving directions and travel estimates for a form of transportation that you aren’t using. Fortunately this is something that you can adjust on your device by setting a preferred transportation type for the Maps app.
How to Change the Preferred Transportation Type in Maps on an iPhone 7
The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 7 Plus in iOS 10.3.3. By setting this option you are telling the Maps app that you would prefer to get your directions specifically with your preferred transportation type in mind. This is helpful if, for example, you are always on foot, but the Maps app keeps giving you driving directions, or estimating travel time to appointments with car transportation in mind.
Step 1: Open the Settings menu.
Step 2: Scroll down and choose the Maps option.
Step 3: Select your preferred transportation type from the options in the top section of this menu.
Note that this setting applies to the default Maps app. This does not affect any settings in third-party maps applications, such as Google Maps.
Are you getting alerts from your calendar letting you know that it’s time for you to leave for something that you have scheduled? Learn how to turn off these notifications if you would like to stop receiving them.
