How to Transfer Google Maps Saved Places to Another Account (3 Ways)

Google Maps doesn’t have a button that moves saved places from one Google Account to another. The easiest workaround is to share each list from your old account and invite your new account to edit it. You can then follow the list, or save the places into new lists that your new account owns. To keep a permanent copy, export your lists with Google Takeout and import them into Google My Maps on the new account.

Which method you choose depends on whether you’ll keep the old account. If you plan to delete it, use Method 2 or 3, because shared lists disappear when the owner’s account is deleted.

Method 1: Share a list with your new account

1. Open the Google Maps app while signed in to your old account.
2. Tap the You tab at the bottom (called Saved in older versions), then tap the list you want to move.
3. Tap Share. To let your new account add and remove places, tap Invite collaborators instead.
4. Send the link to your new account’s email address, or copy it.
5. Sign in to Google Maps with your new account and open the link. Tap Follow to add the list to your saved lists, or accept the invitation to edit it.

On a computer, click Menu > Saved in Google Maps, click the three-dot menu next to a list, and choose Share list.

Some built-in lists, like Starred places, may not have a share option. If you don’t see one, create a new list in the old account, add those places to it, and share that list instead.

Method 2: Re-save the places in your new account

After you follow a shared list from Method 1, you can copy each place into a list your new account owns.

1. In your new account, open the shared list.
2. Tap a place, then tap Save.
3. Choose one of your lists or tap New list, then tap Done.
4. Repeat for each place.

This takes a while for long lists, but the places are fully yours afterward, including any private notes you add.

Method 3: Export with Google Takeout and import into My Maps

Step 1: Export your saved places

1. Sign in to your old account and go to takeout.google.com.
2. Click Deselect all.
3. Check Saved (your lists) and Maps (your places) (your starred and labeled places).
4. Click Next step, choose Send download link via email, and click Create export.
5. When the email arrives, download the ZIP file and unzip it. Your lists are in the Saved folder, one CSV file per list.

Step 2: Import the lists into My Maps on your new account

1. Sign in to your new account and go to google.com/mymaps.
2. Click Create a new map.
3. Under Untitled layer, click Import.
4. Upload one of the CSV files from the Saved folder.
5. When asked which columns to use to position your placemarks, choose Title. Choose Title again for the marker names, then click Finish.
6. Click Add layer and repeat for each list you want to bring over.

Your map shows up in the Google Maps app on the new account under You > Maps. My Maps finds each place by its name, so check the pins afterward and fix any that landed in the wrong spot. Each layer can hold up to 2,000 rows, and a file can be up to 40 MB.

What doesn’t transfer

• Home and Work labels. Set them again in the new account under You > Labeled.
• Reviews and photos. They stay attached to the account that posted them.
• Timeline. Google Maps Timeline is now stored on your phone, not in your account. Use the backup option in Timeline settings to move it to a new phone.
• Offline maps. Download them again in the new account.

Can I merge two Google accounts?

Will my old account’s list update if I add places to it?

Yes. A followed list is a live link, so changes the owner makes show up for you. That’s also why it disappears if the owner deletes the list or the account.
