iOS 17 lets you place Weather widgets directly on an iPhone Lock Screen. You can choose from several compact weather displays, although the available information and customization interface can vary on later iOS releases.
Add a Weather widget to the Lock Screen
- Unlock the iPhone, then touch and hold the Lock Screen.
- Tap Customize.
- Select the Lock Screen.
- Tap the widget area below the clock.
- Select Weather.
- Choose the weather widget you want and arrange it with the other widgets.
- Tap Done to save the Lock Screen.
If there is not enough room
The Lock Screen has limited widget space. You may need to remove an existing widget or choose a smaller Weather option before another one can be added.
Check location access if weather is wrong
The Weather app needs appropriate location information to show conditions for your current location. Review Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and the Weather permissions if the widget is blank or consistently shows the wrong place.
The widget provides a quick summary
Lock Screen widgets are designed for glanceable information. Open the Weather app when you need a detailed hourly forecast, maps, precipitation information, or additional locations.
If your iPhone has been updated beyond iOS 17, Apple may have adjusted the customization screens. The basic idea remains the same: edit the Lock Screen, select its widget area, and choose an available Weather widget.
