You can place a Zoom or Zoom Workplace shortcut on the Windows 11 desktop without moving the application’s installed program files. Create a shortcut that points to the installed app instead.
Steps
- Open Start and search for Zoom or Zoom Workplace.
- Use the application’s available shortcut or file-location options when Windows provides them.
- If necessary, open the Windows applications/shortcuts view and locate the existing Zoom entry.
- Create or copy a shortcut to the desktop rather than copying the executable or installation folder.
- Double-click the new desktop icon.
- Confirm that it opens the installed Zoom Workplace application and reaches the expected sign-in or home screen.
The product name has changed
Zoom has branded its desktop client as Zoom Workplace in recent releases. An older tutorial that searches only for an entry named Zoom may not match the current Start menu.
Install Zoom first if it is missing
A desktop shortcut cannot replace the application itself. If Zoom is not installed, obtain the current Windows client from Zoom’s official source or an approved organization software channel.
Deleting the shortcut is harmless
Removing a desktop shortcut later does not uninstall Zoom or delete meetings and account information. It only removes that particular launcher.
Managed PCs can deploy Zoom differently
Work and school systems may install Zoom per-machine, per-user, or through software management. Use the organization’s installed copy rather than creating a shortcut to an unrelated downloaded executable.
