Method 1: Snipping Tool (Windows 11)

1. Press Windows + Shift + R, or open Snipping Tool from the Start menu and click the Record (video camera) button.
2. Click New if needed, then drag to select the area you want to record.
3. Turn the microphone or system audio on or off in the toolbar.
4. Click Start. After a 3-second countdown, recording begins.
5. Click Stop (the red square) when you’re done.
6. Preview the video and click Save (or press Ctrl + S). Videos save as MP4 files in Videos > Screen Recordings by default.

Method 2: Xbox Game Bar (Windows 10 and 11)

1. Open the app you want to record.
2. Press Windows + Alt + R to start recording right away. Or press Windows + G and click the record button in the Capture widget.
3. Press Windows + Alt + R again to stop.
4. Find recordings in Videos > Captures.

Game Bar can’t record the desktop or File Explorer, and it records only one app at a time. To include your voice, turn on the microphone in the Capture widget or press Windows + Alt + M while recording.

Method 3: PowerPoint Screen Recording

1. Open PowerPoint and create a blank presentation.
2. Click Insert > Screen Recording (or Record > Screen Recording).
3. Click Select Area, drag across the screen, and click Record.
