To remove all comments in a Word document, go to the Review tab, click the arrow under Delete in the Comments group, and choose Delete All Comments in Document. Every comment and reply disappears at once. To remove only one person’s comments, first filter them with Show Markup > Specific People, then choose Delete All Comments Shown.
Deleting comments can’t be undone once you save and close the file, so save a copy first if you might need them later.
Delete all comments at once
- Open the document and click the Review tab.
- In the Comments group, click the arrow below or next to Delete.
- Click Delete All Comments in Document.

If the option is grayed out, there are no comments in the document, or the document is protected. Check Review > Restrict Editing.
Delete comments from one reviewer
- On the Review tab, click Show Markup > Specific People.
- Uncheck All Reviewers, then check only the person whose comments you want to remove.
- Click Delete > Delete All Comments Shown.
- Go back to Show Markup > Specific People > All Reviewers to see the remaining comments.
Delete a single comment
- Right-click the comment and choose Delete Comment.
- Or click the three dots (More thread actions) on the comment card and choose Delete thread.
- Or click inside the comment and click Review > Delete.
Resolve vs. delete
Resolving a comment marks it as done and hides it from the margin, but it stays in the document and anyone can reopen it. Deleting removes it entirely. Before sharing a final version, delete comments rather than just resolving them.
Remove comments and hidden info before sharing
Word’s Document Inspector finds comments, tracked changes, and personal information in one pass:
- Save a copy of your document.
- Go to File > Info > Check for Issues > Inspect Document.
- Make sure Comments, Revisions, and Versions is checked, and click Inspect.
- Click Remove All next to any results you want to clean up.
Tracked changes are separate from comments. To clear them, use Review > Accept > Accept All Changes (or Reject).
Remove all comments in Word for Mac and Word for the web
