Google Chrome can be installed on Windows 11 by downloading the installer from Google’s official Chrome website and running it. Windows 11 already includes Microsoft Edge, so you can use Edge to obtain Chrome without installing a separate downloader or software bundle.
Install Google Chrome on Windows 11
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Go to Google’s official Chrome download page.
- Select the option to download Chrome for Windows.
- Open the downloaded installer from the browser’s Downloads list or your Downloads folder.
- Approve the Windows security prompt if it identifies the expected Google installer.
- Allow the installer to download and install Chrome.
- Open Chrome and sign in only if you want to sync bookmarks, passwords, history, or other supported data.
Use Google’s installer, not a download portal
Third-party software sites may bundle installers with advertising or unrelated utilities. Chrome is available directly from Google, so there is no benefit to obtaining it through an unofficial download page.
Making Chrome the default is optional
Installing Chrome does not require replacing Edge as the default browser. If you prefer Chrome for web links, use Windows 11’s default-app settings or Chrome’s prompt to change the relevant browser defaults.
If Chrome will not install
Check that Windows has an Internet connection, sufficient free storage, and permission to install applications. On a work or school PC, organization policy may prevent users from installing browsers. In that situation, contact the administrator rather than trying to bypass management controls.
If an old Chrome installation is damaged, uninstalling it and downloading a fresh official installer can be more reliable than repeatedly running the same failed installer.
If you already use Chrome on another device, signing in can synchronize supported browser information, but synchronization is optional. On a shared computer, consider using a separate browser profile rather than mixing multiple people’s browsing data.
