A Windows 10 blue screen indicates that Windows stopped after a serious system error. The stop code and circumstances around the crash are more useful than applying random repair commands.
Start with the stop code
Write down the stop code and any driver filename shown. Restart, then consider what changed immediately before the crashes began: a driver, Windows update, new hardware, security software, overclock, or application with low-level drivers.
Check common causes
Install appropriate updates from Windows Update and the PC or hardware manufacturer’s support site. Check Device Manager for hardware problems, remove unstable overclocks, and test storage or memory when symptoms point to hardware. Repeated crashes can also justify reviewing dump files with appropriate diagnostic tools.
Back up important data before extensive repair work, especially if disk errors or hardware failure are suspected.
Windows 10 is out of standard support
Standard Windows 10 support ended October 14, 2025. On compatible hardware, moving to Windows 11 provides a supported platform, although an upgrade should not be used to conceal unresolved failing hardware.
If the machine cannot remain running long enough for normal diagnostics, Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment can help separate startup software from deeper failures. Do not repeatedly power-cycle a drive that is showing clear signs of physical failure when valuable data has not been backed up.
