How to Connect JBL Headphones to Windows 10 (Bluetooth or Wired)

Most JBL headphones and earbuds connect to a Windows 10 PC over Bluetooth in about a minute, and many also work with a cable. The key step people miss is putting the headphones into pairing mode before searching from Windows. This guide covers Bluetooth pairing, wired connections, setting the headphones as your audio device, and fixing common problems like poor sound or a mic that doesn’t work.

Quick Answer

Put your JBL headphones in pairing mode (press and hold the Bluetooth or power button until the light flashes, usually blue). On your PC, open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices, click Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth, and select your JBL model. Once connected, sound plays through the headphones automatically.

With the headphones in pairing mode, select them in the Add a device list. Your model name will appear here.

Step 1: Put the JBL Headphones in Pairing Mode

  • Over-ear and on-ear headphones (Tune, Live series and similar): Turn them on, then press and hold the Bluetooth button (or the power button on models without one) for a few seconds until the LED flashes.
  • True wireless earbuds: Put both earbuds in the case, open the lid, then take them out; many models enter pairing mode automatically the first time. Otherwise, tap and hold a touch sensor or press the case button, depending on the model.
  • If they automatically reconnect to your phone, turn off Bluetooth on the phone first.

Check your model’s quick-start guide or the JBL Headphones app for the exact button.

Step 2: Pair From Windows 10

  1. Press Windows + I and go to Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
  2. Turn Bluetooth on.
  3. Click Add Bluetooth or other device, then Bluetooth.
  4. Select your JBL headphones when they appear.
  5. Wait for Your device is ready to go and click Done.

Next time, just turn on the headphones near your PC; they should reconnect automatically.

Step 3: Make Sure Sound Plays Through the Headphones

  1. Click the speaker icon in the taskbar.
  2. Click the device name above the volume slider and choose your JBL headphones (listed as Headphones or Stereo).

Or go to Settings > System > Sound and choose them under Choose your output device.

Wired Connection

  • 3.5 mm cable: Many JBL over-ear models include an audio cable. Plug one end into the headphones and the other into your PC’s headphone jack. This works even when the battery is dead on most models.
  • USB-C or USB dongle: Some models support USB-C audio or come with a wireless dongle (common on gaming models). Plug it in and Windows installs it automatically.

Troubleshooting

  • Headphones don’t appear: Make sure they’re in pairing mode (flashing light), close to the PC, and not connected to another device. Turn Bluetooth off and on in Windows.
  • Connected but no sound: Select them as the output device, and check the volume on both the PC and headphones.
  • Sound is muffled or low quality during calls: When the microphone is in use, Bluetooth switches to a lower-quality “Hands-Free” profile. For music, choose the Headphones (Stereo) output rather than Headset (Hands-Free), and use a separate mic for calls if quality matters.
  • Microphone doesn’t work: Choose the headset under Settings > System > Sound > Input, and allow mic access in Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
  • Keeps disconnecting: Remove the device (click it and choose Remove device), re-pair, update your Bluetooth driver in Device Manager, and keep the PC within about 10 meters (30 feet).
  • No Bluetooth on your PC: Add an inexpensive USB Bluetooth adapter.

Summary

  1. Hold the headphones’ Bluetooth or power button until the light flashes.
  2. In Windows, go to Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other device.
  3. Select your JBL model and choose it as the output device.
  4. Use the 3.5 mm cable as a wired alternative.
