How to Check Wireless Mouse Battery on Windows 11 (Bluetooth and USB Receiver Mice)

To check a wireless mouse battery on Windows 11, press Windows key + I to open Settings, then select Bluetooth & devices. If your mouse connects over Bluetooth and reports its battery, the level appears as a percentage or battery icon under the mouse’s name.

If your mouse uses a small USB receiver instead of Bluetooth, or it does not report its battery to Windows, check the maker’s app instead (for Logitech, that is Logi Options+ or G HUB), or look at the battery light on the mouse itself. This guide covers all three routes and what to do when none of them shows a number.

Quick Answer

  1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Bluetooth & devices in the left pane.
  3. Find your mouse in the device cards near the top of the page.
  4. Read the battery percentage or icon under the mouse’s name.
  5. No battery shown? Open your mouse maker’s app (such as Logi Options+) or check the mouse’s battery light.

What You Need and Which Mice Report Battery

This guide applies to Windows 11 as of September 2026. You need a wireless mouse that is turned on and connected to your PC. How you check the battery depends on how the mouse connects:

  • Bluetooth mice pair directly with your PC’s built-in Bluetooth radio. Many of them send their battery level to Windows, which shows it in Settings. Not every Bluetooth device supports this, and older models often do not.
  • Mice with a USB receiver (a small dongle, such as Logitech’s Unifying, Logi Bolt, or Lightspeed receivers) talk to the receiver rather than to Windows Bluetooth. They generally do not appear in the Bluetooth device list with a battery level, so you need the maker’s software.
  • Mice with no software support, often basic or older models, may only have a light that turns red or blinks when the battery runs low.

Many mice can use both connection types. If yours has a switch or button for choosing between Bluetooth and a receiver, the method you use depends on which connection is active right now.

If your mouse isn’t connected at all yet, see our guide on how to turn on Bluetooth in Windows first.

Method 1: Check Battery in Windows 11 Settings

This is the fastest built-in check, and it needs no extra software. It works for Bluetooth mice that report their battery level.

  1. Press Windows key + I, or right-click the Start button and select Settings.
  2. In the left pane, select Bluetooth & devices. Expected result: The top of the page shows cards for your connected devices, such as headphones, a keyboard, and your mouse.
  3. Find the card with your mouse’s name. If you do not see it there, select Devices to view the full list.
  4. Look under the mouse’s name for a battery icon or a percentage, such as 60 percent. Expected result: A mouse that supports battery reporting shows its current level. A mouse that does not simply shows its name and connection status.

Microsoft’s own mouse guides use the same approach. For its Bluetooth Mouse, Microsoft says to open the Bluetooth settings and read the battery level shown next to the mouse, as described on the Use Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse support page.

Why the number may look rough

Some mice report battery in broad steps rather than exact percentages, so the figure may stay the same for days and then drop suddenly. The value also updates only while the mouse is connected. If you just switched the mouse on, give it a moment and reopen the Settings page.

Method 2: Check Battery in the Mouse Maker’s App

If your mouse uses a USB receiver, or Windows doesn’t show a battery level, the mouse maker’s app is the most reliable place to look. These apps talk directly to the mouse and usually show more detail than Windows does.

Logitech mice: Logi Options+

Logi Options+ is Logitech’s current app for most of its productivity mice and keyboards, including the MX series.

  1. Download and install Logi Options+ from Logitech’s official website if you haven’t already.
  2. Open Logi Options+. Expected result: The home screen lists your Logitech devices.
  3. Look below the picture of your mouse for its battery status.

According to Logitech’s battery check guide, the status shows either as a percentage or as pips (small bars). One pip means about 0 to 10 percent, two pips mean 11 to 80 percent, and three pips mean 81 percent or more. Logitech also mentions Logi Bolt software as an option for checking battery on devices that use a Bolt receiver.

Logitech gaming mice: G HUB

Logitech G gaming mice use the G HUB app instead. Open G HUB with the mouse connected, and the battery level appears in the product list. On some models, a charging light on the mouse also glows while it charges over a USB cable.

Older Logitech mice: SetPoint

Some older Logitech mice used SetPoint, where the battery screen sits under the My Mouse tab behind a battery icon. Logitech has discontinued SetPoint support and recommends Logi Options+ for supported devices, so use SetPoint only if your older mouse is not supported by Options+.

Other brands

Many other mouse makers, especially gaming brands, offer their own companion apps that show battery level for their wireless mice. Check your mouse’s box, manual, or the maker’s official support site for the app name, and download it only from the maker’s own website or the Microsoft Store. The layout differs by app, but the battery level is usually on the device’s main page.

Method 3: Read the Battery Indicator Light

Almost every wireless mouse has at least one status light. It won’t give you a percentage, but it tells you when to act.

  • Logitech MX Master mice: Logitech’s MX Master battery indicator guide says three green lights mean fully charged, two green mean good, one green means low, and one red light means the battery should be recharged. The lights show when you turn the mouse on, then switch off to save power.
  • Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse: it runs on one AA battery. Its light flashes during pairing and stays on after pairing until you turn the mouse off, so for its battery level, use Windows Settings (Method 1).
  • Other mice: a common pattern is a light that turns red, or blinks, when the battery is low. Because the meaning varies by model, check the manual or the maker’s support page for your exact mouse.

Tip: Many mice show their battery light only for a few seconds after you switch them on. Turn the mouse off and on again while watching the light.

Which Method Works for Your Mouse?

Your mouse Best way to check What you see
Bluetooth mouse that reports battery Settings, Bluetooth & devices Percentage or battery icon
Logitech mouse on a USB receiver or Bluetooth Logi Options+ Percentage or pips
Logitech G gaming mouse G HUB Battery level in product list
Other brand with its own app That brand’s app Varies by app
Basic mouse, no app, no Bluetooth reporting Indicator light Low battery warning only

If you use more than one method, trust the maker’s app over Windows when the two disagree, since the app reads the mouse directly.

Tips to Avoid a Dead Mouse Mid-Task

  • Check weekly. A quick look at the Bluetooth & devices page takes seconds.
  • Keep spares. If your mouse uses AA or AAA batteries, keep a fresh pair in your desk. For rechargeable mice, keep the charging cable nearby.
  • Turn it off when you travel. Most wireless mice have a power switch underneath. Switching it off in a bag stops it from waking up and draining the battery.
  • Watch for early warning signs. A jumpy pointer, lag, or dropped clicks often show up before the mouse dies completely.

Troubleshooting

My mouse isn’t listed under Bluetooth & devices

It is either not paired or it uses a USB receiver. Check whether a small dongle is plugged into your PC. If the mouse is Bluetooth, put it in pairing mode (see its manual), then go to Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Add device, and choose Bluetooth. If the mouse supports Swift Pair, a notification may appear with a Connect button when it is nearby and in pairing mode.

The mouse is listed, but no battery level appears

The mouse probably doesn’t report its battery to Windows. This is common, especially with older models. Use the maker’s app or the indicator light instead. Installing the maker’s app or driver can sometimes add battery reporting, but not for every model.

The battery level seems stuck or wrong

Turn Bluetooth off, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again in Settings, Bluetooth & devices. If that doesn’t help, remove the mouse and pair it again: go to Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Devices, select More options (the three dots) next to the mouse, then Remove device and Yes. Then pair it again.

The mouse keeps disconnecting or lagging

A low battery is the most common cause, so replace or charge it first. If the problem continues, Microsoft’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guide suggests running the Bluetooth troubleshooter (Settings, System, Troubleshoot, Other troubleshooters, then Run next to Bluetooth; on newer builds this may open the Get Help app) and updating the Bluetooth driver in Device Manager. Our guide to fixing mouse lag on Windows 11 has more fixes.

Logi Options+ doesn’t show my mouse

Make sure the mouse is on and connected, and that your model is supported by Options+. Some older Logitech mice aren’t, and gaming mice use G HUB instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Windows 11 show the battery of a mouse that uses a USB receiver?

Usually not in Bluetooth & devices, because the mouse talks to its receiver rather than to Windows Bluetooth. Use the maker’s software, such as Logi Options+ or G HUB, to see its battery level.

Why does my Bluetooth mouse show a name but no battery icon?

Not all Bluetooth devices report battery level to Windows. The mouse still works normally; you just need another way to check, such as the maker’s app or the indicator light.

Does Windows 11 warn me when my mouse battery is low?

Don’t count on it. Whether you get a low-battery alert depends on the mouse and its software, and many mice give no warning in Windows at all. Checking Settings or the maker’s app now and then, and watching the mouse’s indicator light, is the safer habit.

Is the Windows battery report the same thing?

No. The Windows battery report (made with the powercfg command) covers a laptop’s own battery. It doesn’t show mouse battery levels.

How long does a wireless mouse battery last?

It varies widely by model, battery type, and how much you use it, from a few weeks to many months. Check your mouse’s manual or the maker’s product page for its rated battery life.

Can I check my mouse battery on a Mac or phone instead?

If the mouse is paired with that device, yes, through its Bluetooth settings or the maker’s app. On a Windows 11 PC, use the methods above.

Summary

  1. Open Settings with Windows key + I and select Bluetooth & devices.
  2. Read the battery level under your mouse’s name if it is a supported Bluetooth mouse.
  3. For USB-receiver mice or missing readings, open the maker’s app, such as Logi Options+ or G HUB.
  4. Use the mouse’s indicator light as a backup low-battery warning.
  5. If readings look wrong, toggle Bluetooth, re-pair the mouse, or update drivers.

Next step: open Bluetooth & devices now and see whether your mouse shows a battery level; if it doesn’t, install your mouse maker’s official app so you can get a reading.
