Copilot’s form on Windows has changed over time. On a current Windows 10 installation, it may appear as an app, a web-based experience, or a taskbar entry depending on updates and region.
- Open Settings > Apps and search the installed-app list for Copilot.
- If Copilot appears as a separately uninstallable app, select it and choose Uninstall.
- If it is only a taskbar button, use the supported taskbar/personalization setting to hide it instead.
- Restart or sign out if the interface does not update immediately.
Do not use old registry scripts blindly
Microsoft has changed Copilot packaging and policy behavior. A registry tweak written for an early preview can be irrelevant or harmful on a later build.
Managed computers
Organizations can control Copilot through supported policy and licensing settings. Users should not bypass those controls on a managed PC.
Windows 10 lifecycle
Windows 10 ended standard support in 2025, so feature availability is especially version-dependent. Consider a supported OS rather than spending heavily on cosmetic customization of an obsolete installation.
If uninstall is unavailable
A missing Uninstall button can mean Copilot is integrated differently in that Windows build or controlled by policy. Hiding the entry point is preferable to deleting protected packages or taking ownership of Windows component folders based on instructions for another release.
Web shortcuts can look like installed apps
If clicking Copilot opens a browser, the visible entry may be a web shortcut rather than a traditional Windows component. Remove the shortcut or browser-installed app through the browser/Windows app controls instead of trying to uninstall unrelated Microsoft system packages.

Uninstall the Copilot app
- Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Type Copilot in the search box.
- Click the app and choose Uninstall, then confirm.
You can also right-click Copilot in the Start menu’s app list and choose Uninstall.
Remove it with PowerShell
If the Settings option doesn’t appear, open PowerShell and run:
Get-AppxPackage *Copilot* | Remove-AppxPackageThis removes the Copilot app for your user account. Check the result in Settings afterward.
Keep it from coming back
- Windows updates or the Microsoft Store can reinstall the app in some cases. If it returns, uninstall it again.
- On Windows 10 Pro, Group Policy has had a Turn off Windows Copilot setting under User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Copilot. Microsoft has changed how Copilot is delivered, so this policy may not affect the newer app on every build.
- On work PCs, your IT department controls Copilot through its own management tools.
