Windows 11 activation confirms that the copy of Windows installed on a PC is properly licensed. There is no legitimate universal method to activate Windows 11 for free on an unlicensed computer. However, a PC may activate without an additional purchase when it already has an eligible digital license, firmware-embedded key, or qualifying license associated with the device.
Check whether Windows 11 is already activated
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Open Activation.
- Review the Activation state and the installed Windows edition.
If Windows reports that it is activated with a digital license, you do not need to enter another product key.
Use an existing legitimate license
Many PCs originally sold with Windows include licensing information in firmware or have a digital license recognized by Microsoft’s activation servers. Reinstalling the same licensed edition on the same hardware can often reactivate automatically after the PC connects to the internet.
Enter a valid product key when required
If you purchased Windows 11 or received a key through an authorized organization, use the Change product key option on the Activation page. Make sure the key matches the installed edition, such as Home or Pro.
Try Activation Troubleshooter after hardware changes
A major hardware replacement can interrupt digital-license recognition. If the license was associated with your Microsoft account and its terms allow reactivation, the Activation Troubleshooter may help reconnect the license to the device.
Avoid activation scripts and unauthorized KMS tools
Do not use cracks, unofficial KMS servers, modified system files, or scripts advertised as permanent free activation. They can violate Microsoft’s licensing terms, weaken system security, or install malware.
If the PC has no qualifying license, purchase Windows through Microsoft or an authorized seller. A low-priced marketplace key may be revoked later if it was obtained or resold improperly.
