A MAC address identifies a network interface, and a Windows 10 PC can have several of them. Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, VPN software, and virtual adapters can each appear separately, so make sure you read the address for the connection you actually need.
Find a MAC address with Command Prompt
- Open Command Prompt.
- Type ipconfig /all and press Enter.
- Find the section for the Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter you want.
- Look for Physical Address.
- Record that address along with the adapter name so you do not confuse it with another interface.
Use Windows Settings instead
Open Settings > Network & Internet and view the hardware properties for the relevant connection. This can be easier when you need the address for only the currently used adapter.
Getmac provides a compact list
The getmac command can display a shorter list of network-interface addresses. However, ipconfig /all provides more context, which can make it easier to distinguish physical adapters from virtual ones.
Wi-Fi randomization can affect what a network sees
Windows can use random hardware addresses for Wi-Fi in supported configurations. When that feature is active, the MAC address presented to a wireless network can differ from the adapter’s permanent hardware address. Check the Wi-Fi configuration if you are troubleshooting MAC-based network access.
Windows 10 reached the end of standard support in October 2025. The commands still work on existing systems, but computers capable of running a supported Windows version should be considered for migration.
