On Windows, Fortnite is distributed through the Epic Games Launcher. You do not need a separate Fortnite installer from a third-party download site. Install Epic’s launcher, sign in, and install the game from your Epic library.
Install Fortnite on a Windows PC
- Go to the official Epic Games site and download the Epic Games Launcher.
- Run the launcher installer and complete its setup.
- Open the launcher and sign in to your Epic Games account, or create one if necessary.
- Find Fortnite in the Epic Games Store or your library.
- Choose Get or Install, then select the installation location when prompted.
- Allow the download and installation to finish. The size can change as Epic updates the game, so check the launcher’s current storage estimate rather than relying on an old fixed number.
- Launch Fortnite from the Epic Games Launcher and let it install any additional updates.
Check the PC before a large download
Confirm that the computer has enough free storage and meets Epic’s current Fortnite requirements. Graphics requirements and supported Windows versions can change over time. A machine that barely meets the minimum specification may run the game with lower graphics settings or inconsistent performance.
Avoid unofficial Fortnite installers
Search results and advertisements can lead to sites offering modified launchers, cheats, account tools, or supposed standalone installers. Use Epic’s official distribution channel. Do not disable antivirus protection just because an unofficial download says it is necessary.
If Fortnite will not start
Restart the launcher and Windows, install current graphics drivers from the GPU or PC manufacturer, and use the launcher’s verification or repair option when available. Also check Epic’s service status if sign-in or matchmaking is failing for many players.
Choose the installation drive deliberately
If the PC has more than one drive, check the free space and installation path before starting the download. Games can consume substantial storage after later updates. Keeping enough free space on the selected drive also reduces the chance that a future update will fail because the disk has filled up.
