Most PCs cannot meaningfully increase dedicated video memory through a Windows 10 setting. Discrete graphics cards have fixed physical VRAM, while integrated graphics commonly borrow system memory dynamically.
Steps
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc and open Performance > GPU.
- Review the reported Dedicated GPU memory and Shared GPU memory.
- Identify whether the PC uses integrated graphics, a discrete GPU, or both.
- For integrated graphics, check the PC or motherboard documentation for a supported UEFI/BIOS option such as a UMA frame-buffer allocation.
- Change firmware allocation only within the manufacturer’s supported range when a specific application requires it.
- For a discrete GPU with insufficient VRAM, reduce texture/resolution settings or consider compatible hardware replacement.
Registry tricks do not add physical VRAM
Values that change what an application reports cannot solder additional memory onto a graphics card. They may satisfy poorly designed software checks without improving real GPU capacity.
Shared memory is not equivalent to dedicated VRAM
Integrated graphics can use system RAM, but bandwidth, latency, and overall performance differ from dedicated graphics memory.
More reserved memory is not always faster
Increasing an integrated GPU’s fixed reservation can reduce RAM available to Windows while providing little benefit if the graphics driver already allocates shared memory dynamically.
Windows 10 is unsupported
Windows 10 reached the end of standard support in October 2025. For modern games and graphics applications, evaluate Windows 11 compatibility along with any GPU upgrade.
