Windows 10 can change the mouse pointer’s color and size through its accessibility settings. A high-contrast or custom pointer can make the cursor easier to locate on large or busy displays.
Steps
- Open Settings > Ease of Access.
- Choose Mouse pointer or Mouse pointer & touch, depending on the Windows 10 build.
- Select the white, black, inverted, or custom-color pointer style you prefer.
- If you choose a custom color, select one of the suggested colors or use the available custom-color picker.
- Adjust the pointer-size slider if the cursor is still difficult to see.
- Move the pointer over both light and dark windows to test visibility.
- Return to the same settings if you want to restore the default appearance.
Mouse pointer and text cursor are different
The arrow used to point and click is separate from the blinking insertion cursor used while typing. Windows provides different accessibility controls for these elements.
Inverted color can improve contrast
An inverted pointer changes according to the background beneath it, which can help the pointer remain visible when you move between light and dark areas.
Custom colors do not affect applications themselves
Changing the pointer color does not recolor icons, text, webpages, or documents. It changes the Windows pointer appearance used for navigation.
Windows 10 is unsupported
Windows 10 reached the end of standard support in October 2025. Accessibility customization remains useful, but an Internet-connected Windows 10 PC should have a migration plan to a supported operating system.
